On August 1st, the Little Sisters of the Poor joyfully celebrated Sr. Cecilia and her 50th Jubilee of religious profession.
Sr. Cecilia first came to know the Little Sisters of the Poor as a child, visiting the Home in New Orleans with her mother. She spent evenings and weekends with the residents, enjoying sing-alongs, simple conversations, and the warmth of community. Those early experiences planted in her heart the desire to one day become a Little Sister herself.
In 1972, Sr. Cecilia entered the convent, beginning her journey of religious life. After her time as a postulant in Baltimore and two and a half years in the Novitiate in Queens, she prepared to dedicate her life to serving the elderly poor. Leaving home was not easy, but her father’s weekly letters became a treasured connection to her family and a reminder of the love that was always waiting for her.
On March 13, 1976, Sr. Cecilia made her First Profession as a Little Sister of the Poor. Over the next five decades, her ministry took her to communities across the United States and the world, including Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Baltimore, Evansville, St. Louis, Montreal, Somerville, the Bronx, Newark, Delaware, and, finally, Mobile. While the places changed, Sr. Cecilia’s mission remained the same: to love, to serve, and to bring joy wherever God called her.
As we celebrate her 50 years of faithful service, we are especially grateful that God called Sr. Cecilia to Sacred Heart Residence. Her kindness, joy, faith, and dedication have touched countless lives, and we are blessed to have her as part of our Little Sisters of the Poor family. Congratulations, Sr. Cecilia, on 50 years of faithful and loving service! We thank God for the gift of your vocation and for all the lives you have touched along the way.
